Truck maker MAN to cut 2,300 jobs in Germany

BERLIN, Nov 20 (Reuters) - German truck maker MAN plans to cut around 2,300 jobs in Germany over the next 10 years, a spokesperson said on Thursday, as the Traton 8TRA.DE unit grapples with weak demand in its home market and cost issues.

The majority of the job cuts will be in Munich, where 1,300 jobs will be lost, according to the spokesperson.

Plants in Salzgitter and Nuremberg, also in Germany, will be affected as well.

The spokesperson added that fewer jobs would be lost than the number of employees retiring during this period.

"We are now entering a phase of high investment and must generate sustained profits in order to expand our product portfolio," he said.
