Commerzbank important for financing companies, Berlin says ahead of UniCredit talks BERLIN, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Commerzbank CBKG.DE, the German lender that is facing a takeover approach by Italy's UniCredit CRDI.MI, is important for financing the German economy and small and medium-sized companies as well as for Frankfurt as a financial centre, a finance ministry spokesperson said on Friday.
"This must also be ensured in the future," the spokesperson said at a regular government press conference.
German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil will meet with UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel in Berlin on Monday, after a failed attempt to stymie a drawn-out takeover of Germany's second-biggest bank.
