Blueleaf Energy, Universal Peak reach financial close on Malaysia BESS project
Blueleaf Energy, Universal Peak reach financial close on Malaysia BESS project Sept 2 (Reuters) - Singapore-headquartered Blueleaf Energy and Malaysian power infrastructure and engineering firm Universal Peak Sdn Bhd have achieved financial close with United Overseas Bank UOBH.SI for a 100MW/400MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in peninsular Malaysia.
Here are some details:
UOB is serving as the sole lender for the project, the companies said in a joint statement on Tuesday, but did not disclose any financial details.
Construction will proceed under a build, own and operate model.
The project is on track to be commissioned in mid-2027.
BKHM BESS Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between renewable energy platform Blueleaf and Universal, will build the facility.
The project is a cornerstone of Malaysia's inaugural Battery Energy Storage System programme (MyBeST), which is overseen by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
The milestone follows the July launch of Malaysia's Large Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) tender.
Blueleaf is owned by a fund managed by Macquarie Asset Management and operates in Southeast Asia, India and Japan. It has more than 1.3 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of projects in operation or under construction and a pipeline exceeding 13 GWp of generation and roughly 7 GWh of storage.
GWp is a measure of the maximum power output of a solar power installation under standard test conditions.
Universal provides engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services across substations, underground cable systems, overhead transmission lines, and grid interconnection infrastructure in Malaysia.
