The purpose of this links thread, MIL, is to act as a hub for money-making (or loss avoiding!) investment ideas and significant news. It is NOT intended for extensive discussions but rather to provide investors with a single place to find new ideas (bullish or bearish) that may not relate to stocks they are already following actively. Readers can then explore and discuss them on the appropriate thread, if they wish to do so. It should help users find their way around Stockopedia.

The concept is very much a "beta" at the moment, so feedback is welcome. HOWEVER, to avoid cluttering this thread I have set up another thread for metadiscussion of the concept - MIL Metadiscussion - and request that feedback be posted there: http://www.stockopedia.com/forum/view/29894/mil-metadiscussion .

To try and make this thread useful, I will impose some rules. Posts should obey these guidelines:

Keep the post short
Ideas/news must relate to specific stocks, small groups of stocks, or sectors. This thread is also a good place for highlighting when a new thread hs been created.There are other threads under the "Market Sentiment" theme where you can express opinions about general market or economic direction.
The idea should be backed by publicly available evidence, allowing those interested to DTOR.
Include an "executive summary" of the idea/news.
Include a link to another thread where the idea/news is covered in depth
Discussion of the idea/news should take place on that other thread, rather than here
This thread is not for TA-based trading. If you want to post about a technically based opportunity, please do so on a thread designed for that purpose. However, I see nothing wrong with including some TA commentary, if you feel it is appropriate, alongside the fundamental discussion of each idea/news item, chiefly on the thread that the post links to.

If you come across a good post, please DO highlight it here! [and if readers agree, please make sure you rec the referenced post, giving some encouragement to its author!]

I will moderate posts that do not follow these rules. If you think I should change the rules, please discuss on the metadiscussion thread.

I have started a thread to document and discuss today's AGM of Caledon Resources (AIM:CDN), which I attended (part of). Based on what I learned, rumoured sale figures of 80p (Caledon is in a bid period and undergoing a "strategic review") are in line with my assessment of fair value, against today's SP of 56p, falling on an apparently poor production numbers. With net cash, an attractive prospective yield (10%) and interesting recovery prospects (eventually), this may appeal to value investors.

Maxima Plc (MXM) published their finals this morning. With adjusted EPS of 21.2 (giving a historic P/E of below 5) and a yield of over 5%, these may appeal to value investors - and could recover strongly in the event of a recovery in the UK economy. Carpetright Interim Management Statement out today - I've commented briefly on it here: http://www.stockopedia.com/forum/view/27443/tough-times?comment=2#2 but it might be good to see the views of others who are more actively involved?

I've got no position in CPR but it does seem to me that this is (and has been for a while) one of the more interesting trading opportunities around. If I'd been interested in trading for the short term, then going long a few months back and opposing the short-sellers would have been my inclination (as I wrote elsewhere at the time). Now we might well be starting to see a final rally on short-covering as the shorters get squeezed out - and perhaps give those who've been doing the squeezing an opportunity to reverse their positions.

Certainly one of the more interesting trading stocks around, IMO, being leveraged to perceptions of economic recovery (or lack of) as well as to the underlying fundamentals of the business.

A rather downbeat sounding AGM statement was released, which has caused a bit of a sell-off in the stock, understandably. However, Endace have "form" for releasing worrying sounding statements which may not actually presage a significant downturn in the business, so this might be worth watching. Considering Endace's profitable growth track record and prospective growth going forward, on the back of their higher value appliance product range, the market's reaction to the statement may present a "buying opportunity" in due course.

As an aside I did pick up a few MONI (Monitise) last week - terrible from the nomenological viewpoint ;0) - just to motivate me to study & follow the business more closely.

** BARGAIN ALERT ** I have just been able to pick up a nice little slug of Polo Resources Ltd at 4.64p, to add to my existing holding, against my calculated NAV of 8.1p.I have quite a lot of Polo now, by my standards. See the Polo thread for further details.

Any serious investor that isn't already following Extract (ASX:EXT) & related companies may be interested in this recent post. The value the market is currently putting on Extract (and Polo Resources Ltd , Emerging Metals in particular which have major investments in Extract and Kalahari Minerals respectively) seems too low to me, for the reasons stated in my post and further explained in the header of the thread the post is in.

With a deadline of 18th March for "interested parties" to submit partnering proposals and a big JORC resource upgrade expected this summer (with results from further drilling likely any time), there are events beside a turn in the (tiny) U spot market that may lead to share-price appreciation.

I have recently been adding to my holdings in Extract, EML and Polo.

Essentially, it owns the IP for an ammonia heap leach process which appears to be attracting the attention of Cu miners. It looks as though it is currently trying to assess how much to charge these miners... I have no idea how to value the IP but I am guessing that the result may prove exciting for the company.

I'd just like to commend Edison's in-depth note on Lincat issued this morning.

I have held Lincat previously - and selling the stock some years ago, to grab a short-term profit, turned out to be a mistake. I have bought back in at a higher price recently. A sound balance sheet, prudent management and 20-year dividend growth track-record make the current ~6% yield rather tasty. The chief problem with Lincat is illiquidity in the stock. The spread is horrendous, around 10%. This is definitely a "bottom drawer" stock, to be held on an LTBH basis, with the promise of delivering regular & growing income to the holder, not recommended for those looking for a quick turn.

I shall be looking out for any sales of stock as an opportunity to add to my holding and hope to attend this year's AGM to get to know the Directors.

I recommend taking a gander at Edison's note on construction & specialist engineering firm Renew Hldgs (LON:RNWH) and at their interim results, published yesterday. A yield close to 10%, P/E around 5, net cash, strong order book growth and exposure to the nuclear sector seem like an attractive combo to me and I added to my holding yesterday. These positives are tempered by significant exposure to the UK public sector - but much of that is to important infrastructure projects that may be given priority by the new government (e.g. water management, social housing).

Director purchase in Polo Resources Limited (AIM and TSX: POL) by Stephen Dattels (4m. @ 2.6p) bringing his holding up to 9.94%.
