Episode 7 of the Donald and Dave Trading Podcast.
A rollercoaster of a week with covid vaccine news creating some big winners and losers.
We discuss potential covid recovery plays, the markets in general, some recovery in the UK indices and holding for the very long term.
Stocks discussed include TSLA, NIO, SMED, PLTR, DIGS, WJG, PRTY, FDEV, GAW, FECR and FUBO.

Thanks Donald and Dave. Another useful podcast. You covered three of my currents stocks (GAW, NIO and TSLA) so it was particularly relevant. I managed to buy NIO at $52 yesterday, so no instant profit as it dropped almost immediately to $41! It's got the same quality of TSLA and GAW, always seeming to be much too high and then going higher. I think these 3 unique stocks are reasonably safe long term and I expect them all to double, at least, over the next 5 years so I'll hold on to them and ignore the short term fluctuations which may be substantial. In terms of length, I think 30 mins is about perfect for a podcast, but that just reflects my short attention span and 40-50 minutes might be fine for everyone else.

Another great pod cast chaps one thing I picked up when Dave mentioned be wary when bases are getting past the 4/5 mark what time frame are you looking back through to counts the bases ? and do you both look at weekly or daily chart patterns ?

In general, I find the longer the timescale the clearer the signal and really monthly and weekly signals are much better to identify trades than any others. Shorter timescales may be better for timing entry and exit, but you need the longer timescales to identify trends. FWIW I'm not convinced about the base counting for GAW - looks to me like its been a pretty constant grind up since March, though it needs to recover quickly now on the chart has a distinct roll over look. But...the fundamentals are sound, so it could well really test the patience of technical traders before the fundamentals take over.

Thanks Donald essentially then more a case of keeping an eye on direction of travel when you enter the trade than putting to much faith in the number of previous level 2 bases built.

Yes, though bases can be useful: its not easy to show them cleanly but on BUR you can see a few areas where the price paused before the final choppy pause then fall off a cliff. So I guess the value is in counting those pauses and just having in mind that the more of them they are, the higher the risk the rally is getting long in the tooth.

BTW, I think BUR now looks very good!

Donald, thanks for an interesting podcast.
I also have just bought back into Games Workshop (LON:GAW), not sure which way it will go, it's down a bit more today.

I did have a look at Frontier Developments (LON:FDEV), which I used to hold, it's down 6% today on no news, one thing that did put me off, buying was the directors selling around 2600p, quite a lot of the selling was share options but not all. The share options look very generous which I don't like.
There was a share near the end that Dave mentioned but I could not understand the name, the one before Kainos (LON:KNOS), think it began with A.

I also hold Burford Capital (LON:BUR), question is can it break out from around 800p?

Charts are way outside my competence, although I am trying to see if the more credible elements can add to my approach,

Re Burford Capital (LON:BUR) - am I right to think that we would be looking for a break above about £7.90 on convincing volume to signal the next "leg up" ?

And if that is a reasonable hypothesis, do you have any thoughts on how to assess volume with the dual listing?

Most TA is a bit ridiculous imo and the more complex it is (I'm thinking of the crab and bat diagrams so people love in particular) the less likely it is to make sense. What matters is building a narrative about supply and demand, and trying to assess where buyers and sellers each have the upper hand, whether the price is stuck in a range or in a trend and when that is likely to change, rather than trying to discern strange patterns. So I think you have called Burford Capital (LON:BUR) completely right. If it can break above recent highs on decent volume it should be able to move quite freely. As for volume, the US seems to be regularly turning over around 40,000 shares a day, which is around 1/10 of the average volume in the UK, so its probably not having a huge effect yet.

I think that was probably Ameresco in the US. Frontier Developments (LON:FDEV) is imo a fantastic company with a great stable of games and a very interesting pipeline, all of which contribute to a long term, regular income. The share options are, however, outrageous. I don't mind Dave Braben making a fortune, but seeing the CFO cashing in millions after being there for not that long strikes me as egregious.
