MILAN, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Italian multi-utility A2A A2.MI aims to build its first data center in Lombardy, the region around Milan, in 2027, with operations starting the following year, Chief Executive Renato Mazzoncini said on Wednesday.
A2A plans to invest €1.6 billion in the construction and management of new data centers under its 10-year plan to 2035, Mazzoncini told reporters on the sidelines of a presentation of the group's first climate transition programme.
Lombardy, Italy's richest and most industrialized region, is widely expected to see a surge in digital infrastructures over coming years that would boost electricity demand.
Mazzoncini said A2A, which is based in the cities of Milan and Brescia, is currently working on three projects, all in Lombardy. He declined to give details on their capacity.
"The others will come later," he added.
