COMPANIES

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI, BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

A first meeting between the Italian bank's representatives and government officials is scheduled to take place on Monday in Rome as part of proceedings under the so-called golden powers Italy holds in relation to UniCredit's takeover bid for Banco BPM.

UniCredit said late on Friday it had filed the prospectus document of its exchange offer on Banco BPM with market regulator Consob.

Approval is expected around the end of the month following the ECB's green light, a person familiar with the process told Reuters. Under Italian rules Consob has five days to approve the document once UniCredit secures all the relevant supervisory and regulatory go-aheads, such as the ECB's.

ASSICURAZIONI GENERALI GASI.MI, MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI, MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI

Cabinet undersecretary Giovanbattista Fazzolari, asked about the recent wave of consolidation sweeping the Italian banking sector and affecting Mediobanca and Generali, said on Friday that the government was in favour of any initiative to keep Italian savings in the country.

A spokesperson for Generali said the domestic roots of a group which holds 40 billion euros of Italian assets with another 10 billion invested into properties in the country were "strong", adding the asset management deal with BPCE did not alter that, given Generali retained decision-making power on where to allocate Italian savings.

AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR

Italy's government has begun studying ways to promote, over a 10-year period, an at least partly conversion of the country's automotive industry into manufacturers of parts for the military technology industry, Corriere della Sera reported on Saturday.

MPs from the 5 Star Movement called on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and ministers involved to shed light on the "secret plan to convert the car industry", after the report came out.

Its board has nominated Daniel Ramot and Alice Schroeder for appointment as new non-executive directors, the carmaker said on Monday.

ITALGAS IG.MI, ASCOPIAVE ASCI.MI, ACEA ACE.MI

Regional utility Ascopiave is ready to buy part of the clients that gas distributor Italgas will need to give up to get a green light by the national antitrust regulator for its  acquisition of domestic rival 2i Rete, Corriere della Sera reported on Sunday. Talks can only start after the authority will grant its authorisation, and could regard 650,000 users for a total value of 650 million euros, Corriere said, adding Rome-based utility Acea is also interested.

     Mediobanca Premier will reach the goal of having 50 billion in assets under management by June 2026 "well in advance", the director general of the private banking arm of the lender, Lorenzo Bassani, told la Repubblica's weekly Affari&Finanza in an interview on Monday. The executive added the unit is set to beat the target of increasing its network of private bankers and financial advisers to 1,350 by mid-2026 from 1,100 at the end of 2023.

An added time penalty earned Lazio a 2-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro on Sunday, where the hosts had equalised despite going down to 10-men and endured a hostile atmosphere from their own fans protesting the club owners.
