ROME, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Italy's ruling coalition is
moving to extend the business licences held by the country's
power distribution operators, in exchange for extraordinary
investments in the electricity grid, an amendment to Rome's 2025
budget showed.
The concessions under which the groups, which include Enel
ENEI.MI , A2A A2.MI and ACEA ACE.MI , distribute power in
the country could be extended by as much as 40 years, if the
utilities agree with the energy ministry new investment plans,
according to the amendment, which is still subject to changes.
The concessions of Italy's power distributors expire in 2030
but the law states that a decision on how to manage the end of
the concession should be taken by 2025.
Italy's parliament is due to approve the budget by the end
of December.
