A MORNING FOR STOCKPICKERS
The first hour or so of European trading has been dominated by earnings, and when you net out all the single-stock moves, the decliners are just about outweighing the winners, leaving the STOXX 600 down 0.2%.
It's hard to tell a consistent story about the fallers, not a great deal links Dutch payments firm Adyen ADYEN.AS , London-listed drug maker GSK GSK.L Spain's Banco Santander SAN.MC, though all are down after earnings — 10% in the case of Adyen.
Other banks are doing well, StanChart and Deutsche are up over 3% after their results, but with their pretty different regional footprints, it's hard to tell a consistent story there either.
That means it's been a morning for those who focus on picking singly stocks, though politics and macro news will soon take over.
British finance minister John Healey will begin delivering his budget around 1230 GMT, and then later in the day we get the Fed and Microsoft and Alphabet earnings.
