Poland's Alior Bank misses second-quarter profit expectations
Poland's Alior Bank misses second-quarter profit expectations Aug 4 (Reuters) - Poland's Alior Bank ALRR.WA reported a quarterly net profit that missed analysts' expectations on Tuesday, as a corporate income tax hike and mounting legal and credit-risk charges dragged on earnings.
The lender posted a net profit of 366.6 million zlotys ($97.8 million) for the April to June period, well below the 448 million zlotys forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll.
The bank's net interest income was 1.12 billion zlotys, against market expectations of 1.26 billion zlotys.
The nearly 13% year-on-year drop was largely driven by a 153.2 million zloty interest income correction following an EU court ruling on consumer credit in April.
Earnings were also hit by increased provisions for consumer loan legal claims and rising credit-risk charges tied to renewable-energy clients.
Net fee and commission income reached 240.5 million zlotys, beating a forecast of 231 million zlotys.
Poland's late 2025 amendment raised the corporate income tax rate for commercial banks to 30% in 2026.
