Australia's Alliance Aviation taps veteran Steven Greenway as CEO

- Australia's Alliance Aviation Services AQZ.AX on Tuesday said it has appointed Steven Greenway as its chief executive, succeeding Stewart Tully who is leaving the charter flight operator after a decade.

Greenway, who brings more than 25 years of international aviation leadership experience, started his career at Qantas QAN.AX and later held senior leadership roles at Singapore Airlines' SIAL.SI budget carrier Scoot and SkyEurope Airlines. Most recently, Greenway served as the top boss of flyadeal, the low-cost airline unit of the Saudia Group.

Alliance shares closed down 0.5% before the company announced the CEO appointment.

The leadership change comes as the company navigates a turbulent stretch. Alliance shares fell nearly 60% last year and are down about 25% year-to-date, valuing it at approximately A$149 million ($105.79 million) - well below the roughly A$611 million Qantas had offered for a 80% stake in 2022.

“The Board is confident Steven is the right person to lead Alliance through the next phase of its strategy as a FIFO-focused (fly-in, fly-out) specialist aviation provider, and to build on the company’s strong operational, commercial and cultural foundations," said James Jackson, chairman of Alliance Aviation.

Tully, who will remain in office till the end of October, was appointed as chief in February 2024. He joined Alliance as a general manager of operations in 2015.
