Spanish travel tech firm Amadeus' profit beats estimates on strong bookings (updated)

Recasts paragraphs 1-2 with share move, paragraph 3 with guidance, adds context, graphics, and analyst comments in paragraphs 7-10

Nov 7 (Reuters) - Spanish travel technology company Amadeus AMA.MC reported better-than-expected third-quarter profit on Friday, driven by strong performances across its divisions and an uptick in bookings, which sent its shares up as much as 4% in early trade.

The company's third-quarter adjusted profit came in at 370.2 million euros ($431.73 million), beating analysts' average estimate of 359.7 million euros, according to LSEG data.

Amadeus said it benefited from higher bookings relative to the previous quarter, citing a more stable global macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, and reiterated its full-year guidance.

Growth accelerated across most regions, particularly the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Western Europe, the operator of the world's largest travel booking system said.

DEMAND IS GROWING, BUT SLOWLY

Global air travel demand has fallen short of expectations this year, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) cutting its 2025 growth forecast to 5.8% from 8% in June, citing "U.S. trade policy that (brought) protectionism to a level not seen in decades."

Even that forecast now looks too high, as global air traffic rose just 4.8% in January-September, with a 7.7% surge in Asia-Pacific offset by a mere 0.1% gain in North America.

Amadeus, maintaining its outlook and resilience, therefore, should be rewarded, analysts at Jefferies said in a note, given the uncertain tech sector backdrop.

"Overall, with numbers broadly trending the right way, we believe these numbers are reassuring," the brokerage said.
