Ameren posts higher quarterly profit as infrastructure investments pay off
Ameren posts higher quarterly profit as infrastructure investments pay off July 30 (Reuters) - Utility Ameren AEE.N on Thursday reported a rise in second-quarter profit, benefiting from investments in infrastructure to improve reliability.
The Energy Information Administration has said U.S. power consumption will rise further in 2026 and 2027 after hitting its second straight annual record high last year.
Ameren said net income attributable to common shareholders rose to $314 million, or $1.13 per share, for the three months ended June 30, from last year's $275 million, or $1.01 per share.
Quarterly revenue for its gas segment rose 12% to $205 million, while electric segment fell about 7.4% to $1.89 billion
Ameren said higher maintenance expenses, including reliability-focused tree trimming and energy center upkeep, along with lower retail electricity sales due to milder weather, weighed on earnings.
The St. Louis, Missouri-based company also reaffirmed its 2026 profit forecast of $5.25 to $5.45 per share.
Ameren serves about 2.5 million electricity customers and more than 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area through its Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois rate-regulated utility subsidiaries.
