        9:37 a.m. -- (DC-9-11-BASILICA/BELLS) EVENT -- To mark 25 years since the 9/11 attacks, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception hosts a special event on Friday with the tolling of its largest bell (The Mary Bell), 25 times at 9:37 a.m. - the time on September 11, 2001 when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, just 5 miles from the shrine.

           Note: At 5:15 p.m., Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, celebrates Mass in the basilica's Crypt Church "to pray for those who died, honor the brave first responders and members of our Armed Forces who answered the nation's call in its aftermath, and entrust to the mercy of God all affected by that tragic day."
