Australia's AMP taps former Westpac executive Jackie Cleary as finance chief (updated)

Adds details from paragraph 2 onwards

May 22 (Reuters) - Australian wealth manager AMP Ltd AMP.AX named former Westpac WBC.AX executive Jackie Cleary as its chief financial officer on Friday after Blair Vernon took over as the group's top boss earlier this year.

Cleary worked at Westpac, one of Australia's "Big Four" banks, as it vice president. She is expected to take over the role at AMP from July 20, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

She joins AMP from Jefferies where she most recently served as the managing director and head of financial institutions at the brokerage's Australian unit.

Her role involved advising listed and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority-regulated financial institutions on corporate strategy and capital allocation, among other things.

Vernon, AMP's former finance chief, was appointed as the chief executive officer in March following Alexis George's retirement from the position.
