Australia's Ampol hits 5-month high, tracking gains in energy stocks

** Shares of Ampol ALD.AX rise as much as 4% to A$27.97, its highest level since late February 21

** Stock rises in line with gains in the domestic energy sub-index .AXEJ, which rose 0.8% on the back of rising oil prices O/R

** The fuel retailer reports a 1.1% drop in second-quarter refining margins at its Lytton refinery, while flagging strong performance in its non-refining segments

** Stock was last up 2.6%, but down 1.8% YTD
