POLITICS
A court on Friday acquitted Italian Deputy Prime Minister
Matteo Salvini of charges of kidnapping over 100 migrants aboard
a boat he had blocked at sea for nearly three weeks in 2019, as
part of a policy to curb irregular arrivals.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Sunday said she
was happy with the current interior minister, Matteo Piantedosi,
after a court ruling cleared the way for Deputy Prime Minister
Matteo Salvini to potentially take that role.
Russia poses a bigger threat to European Union security than
just defence as Moscow can use illegal immigration and other
issues to undermine the bloc, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia
Meloni said on Sunday.
DEBT
Italy's medium- to long-term gross funding needs will fall
in 2025 to between 330 billion euros($344.26 billion) and 350
billion from around 377 billion this year, the Treasury
estimated on Friday in its debt guidelines for next year.
ECONOMY
Italian state railways Ferrovie dello Stato plans to invest
1.3 billion euros ($1.4 billion) in a photovoltaic plant with an
initial 1 gigawatt (GW) capacity that would cover 19% of its
energy needs by 2029, the CEO said in a newspaper interview.
ISTAT releases November non-EU foreign trade data (0900
GMT).
BANKS
The Bank of Italy said on Friday it had confirmed its
countercyclical capital buffer (CCyB) for the country's lenders
at zero for the first quarter of next year.
COMPANIES

U.S. fund TPG could be interested in some of the assets the
payments firm holds in its Digital Banking Solutions division,
as state investor CDP considers purchasing the division's main
asset, the interbank network that allows banks to net customers'
transactions, Corriere della Sera said on Sunday.
UNICREDIT CRDI.MI
Goldmans Sachs cut its stake in the Italian bank to 0.87% as
of Dec. 13 fom 5.58% on Dec. 9, a bourse filing showed on
Friday.
Intesa CEO Carlo Messina told the Financial Times on Sunday
that whatever the outcome of UniCredit's bid for Banco BPM "a
third big player will emerge in Italy regardless, as the market
will seek this." Messina said governments should stay out of
bank mergers, unless financial stability is at stake, and let
shareholders decide.
INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI
CEO Messina also said in the FT interview the bank had
invested more than 30 million euros to set up a new internal
controls system and segregate politicians' accounts after a data
breach caused by a rogue employee.
SNAM SRG.MI
CEO Stefano Venier told la Repubblica on Sunday the LNG
(liquified natural gas) terminal the gas grid group is planning
in Ravenna will be in place in February, when the floating
storage and regasification unit will dock, and will start
commercial operations in April.
TELECOMS
Swisscom's SCMN.S planned acquisition of Vodafone Italia
VOD.L has been cleared by Italy's competition watchdog and its
industry ministry, the Swiss telecoms group said.
