STOXX BOUNCES BACK, ASTRAZENECA DRAGS
An early rebound in European shares on Thursday lifted the STOXX 600 .STOXX about 0.5%, with technology .SX8P providing the biggest boost and basic resources .SXPP, banks .SX7P and industrials .SXIP also giving a helping hand.
A pullback in Brent LCOc1 crude from three-week highs provided some relief to the broader market, while also cooling this week's rally in oil and gas stocks .SXEP, down 0.3%.
A sharp drop in UK heavyweight AstraZeneca AZN.L after a failed drug trial kept the FTSE 100 .FTSE below parity.
The drugmaker fell as much as 10.3% in London, setting its shares for their biggest one-day fall in nine years and making healthcare .SXDP the worst-performing sector in Europe.
