ASX to focus on repeated conduct of potential share ramping
ASX to focus on repeated conduct of potential share ramping June 26 (Reuters) - Australian bourse operator ASX ASX.AX said on Friday it will focus on repeated conduct of potential share ramping through company announcements over the next year as it released its first supervision report for listed firms.
Here are some details:
The Australian Securities Exchange released a 16-page supervision report for listed firms, setting out targeted reviews, including a focus on announcements from miners and private credit investment disclosures.
The exchange operator said over the next year it will focus on repeated conduct intended to "ramp" a company's share price through its market announcements platform.
Share ramping involves promoting a stock in a way that can give a misleading impression of its value or demand.
ASX said its review will emphasise more on entities' patterns of behaviour rather than specific content of individual announcements, which it said could result in "unproductive engagement".
The bourse operator said concerns rise when an entity's disclosure practices are aimed at supporting a placement price and inducing speculative developments, among other actions.
ASX will also review disclosures on private credit investments by newly admitted entities, while tightening scrutiny over disclosures from miners with emphasis on production targets and financial forecasts, among others.
