POLITICS

The so-called Coalition of the Willing made fresh progress on a framework for NATO-style security guarantees for Ukraine during a meeting of Kyiv's allies in Paris, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday.

The European Commission appeared to have won the crucial support of Italy on Tuesday for a contentious free trade deal with South American bloc Mercosur, paving the way for the EU to sign the agreement as early as next week.

ISTAT releases Q3 Deficit/GDP ratio data (0900 GMT) and December flash CPI and HICP data (1000 GMT).

Treasury announces sale of 12-month BOT bills, with relative amounts to be auctioned on January 9.

The automaker's output in Italy slumped to around 350,000 vehicles in 2025, daily Il Giornale reported on Wednesday, citing estimates by the Fim Cisl trade union due to be made official later in the day. This compares with 475,090 vehicles produced in 2024.

Italy is weighing measures to make China's Sinochem 600500.SS a passive shareholder in Pirelli, including freezing its voting rights, as part of efforts to back the tyremaker's U.S. expansion, two sources familiar with the matter said.

Caracas and Washington have reached a deal to export up to $2 billion worth of Venezuelan crude to the United States, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, a flagship negotiation that would divert supplies from China while helping Venezuela avoid deeper oil production cuts.

Venezuelan and U.S. officials this week discussed possible sales mechanisms, including auctions to allow interested U.S. buyers to bid for cargoes, and issuing U.S. licenses to PDVSA's business partners, including Eni, that could lead to supply contracts, two sources told Reuters.

Deutsche Bank on Wednesday resumed coverage of the insurer with a 'hold' rating and a target price of 37.50 euros.
