(*) Italy's third-largest bank on Tuesday posted better than expected first quarter profits on rising revenues, confirming industry trends as it closed the reporting season for the sector.

Italy's antitrust watchdog said on Monday it had opened an investigation into a deal between telecoms operator Fastweb and the country's former phone monopoly to jointly build a fifth generation mobile infrastructure and share their networks.

Rating agency Moody's raised late on Monday the company's rating to 'Ba1' from 'Ba2', with a 'stable' outlook.

MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI

The Italian merchant bank on Monday reported a 3.4% fall in quarterly net profit to 322.7 million euros, due to higher taxation and some non-recurring components.
