POLITICS

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hailed her country's "excellent" relationship with India in a phone call on Wednesday with her counterpart Narendra Modi, making no mention of U.S. requests for the EU to impose tariffs of up to 100% on Indian imports.

DEBT

Treasury sells BTP bonds. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

COMPANIES

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The carmaker agreed on Wednesday to sell its Italian VM Motori engine making unit to a group of Italian investors who also control engine part maker Marval.

(*) The carmaker on Wednesday welcomed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's call for a "small affordable cars" initiative. "President von der Leyen’s initiative is both visionary and urgent. Now it’s time to turn ambition into action," the group said in statement.

It added that the EU needed to "adjust the regulatory bias toward large battery electric vehicles and reward the ones with a smaller footprint" as well as "cut unnecessary (regulation) to improve affordability without compromising safety and connectivity."

MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI, MONTE DEI PASCHI (MPS) BMPS.MI

The general manager of Mediobanca said the take-up in Monte dei Paschi di Siena's bid for the merchant bank would reach 80%, making a merger of the two groups inevitable, as he sought to reassure staff on a conference call.

An Italian court on Wednesday rejected an appeal by Mediobanca investor Bluebell Partners against Consob's approval of Monte dei Paschi's capital increase, which was required for its offer for the merchant bank.

BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

Italy would focus on protecting small business lending and domestic savings in a tie-up between Banco BPM and the local arm of French Credit Agricole CAGR.PA, the head of the lower house's finance committee said, adding a bank's nationality was not an issue in itself.

Squeeze-out procedure on illimity Bank shares continues; ends on Sept. 12.

EDISON EDNn.MI

The Italian gas and electric utility plans to replace some gas volumes from pipeline contracts with liquefied natural gas to gain more flexibility in managing demand, its CEO said on Wednesday.

AVIO AVI.MI

The Italian rocket maker may consider a capital increase of as much as 300 million euros to strengthen its satellite-launch business, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

LUXURY

Kering said on Wednesday that it will not fully acquire Italian fashion house Valentino until at least 2028, in its first major move under new CEO Luca de Meo.

JP Morgan on Thursday raised its rating to "overweight" from "neutral" and raised the target price to 54 euros from 45 euros.
