Travel retailer Avolta's turnover rises nearly 5% organically in Q3 (updated)

Adds y-o-y comparison for Q3 core turnover, background on currency exchange conditions

Oct 30 (Reuters) - Travel retailer and food service operator Avolta AVOL.S reported 4.8% organic growth in its third-quarter turnover on Thursday, supported by its diversified business model in a challenging market environment.

The Swiss company, which runs shops, cafes and restaurants at airports, on cruise liners, in seaports and other tourist locations worldwide, reported a core turnover of 3.79 billion Swiss francs ($4.78 billion). That was down 0.9% on a reported basis, primarily driven by a 3.5% negative impact from currency exchange rates.

Avolta confirmed its financial targets for 2025 and the medium term, and said it continues to expect a negative impact of around 3% from currency translation on its full-year results, based on current exchange rates.

The group said growth had continued in the fourth quarter, with an around 6% organic rise in October, supported by strong momentum in North America where it secured long-term retail and dining contracts at key airports including Atlanta, San José, Dallas Fort Worth and San Antonio.

While Avolta's results have been hurt by weak U.S. consumer confidence, unfavourable exchange rates and sluggish passenger growth in the Middle East, Russia and among Chinese travellers, its overall performance has remained solid thanks to global passenger growth and rising demand for its more affordable offerings.
