STOXX SET TO SNAP LOSING STREAK
The STOXX 600 is edging higher on Friday as it looks set to snap a seven-day losing streak, its longest in almost three years.
The pan-continental index is up 0.3% on the day, having fallen for the last seven trading sessions. It was heading for a weekly drop of about 1%.
About 60% of stocks in the index are advancing on Friday.
Other bourses are also positive, with modest gains for the FTSE .FTSE, CAC .FCHI and DAX .GDAXI.
Italy's FTSE MIB .FTMIB is up 0.4%, although banking stocks are mixed after Monte dei Paschi BMPS.MI launched takeover offers for both Banco BPM BAMI.MI and Banca Generali BGN.MI in an attempt to fend off an approach by Intesa Sanpaolo ISP.MI.
Mining and metals stocks .SXPP are the top gainers, helped by a strong rise in precious metals and copper.
