** Shares of BankUnited BKU.N rise 2.4% to $32.12 in early trading

** Piper Sandler upgrades rating to "overweight" from "neutral"

** "BKU presents a clear low downside risk play with the shares at only ~86% of TBVPS (tangible book value per share) today," Piper Sandler analysts said in a note

** Four brokerages rate stock "buy" or higher, 6 "hold", and 1 "sell"; median PT at $44 - LSEG data

** Stock is down nearly 18% YTD, including session moves; it rose around 18% in 2024
