Barry Callebaut reports lower cocoa sales volume, meeting expectations

Corrects in paragraph 2 to say H1 volume was in 'million' metric tons

April 16 (Reuters) - Barry Callebaut BARN.S sold less of its cocoa products, as expected by the market, in the first half of its financial year, the chocolate maker said on Thursday, citing weaker demand and market overcapacity.

The Swiss company, which supplies chocolate for Magnum MICCT.AS ice creams and Nestle's NESN.S KitKat bars, said its sales volume fell 6.9% from a year ago to 1.01 million metric tons between September and February. Analysts were expecting 1 million tons on average, a poll provided by the company showed.
