BMW sees scope for savings in European supplier base with Hungary localisation
BMW sees scope for savings in European supplier base with Hungary localisation BERLIN, July 30 (Reuters) - BMW BMWG.DE sees its new factory in Debrecen, Hungary, as an opportunity to improve cost structures in Europe, including through localising suppliers there, CEO Milan Nedeljkovic said on Thursday after reporting second-quarter results.
"Our approach will, of course, be to localize more suppliers in that area and to optimize the cost base of these new settlements," Nedeljkovic said in a call with analysts, adding that this was one way of utilising low-cost production locations in Europe.
BMW is producing its new all-electric iX3 from the plant.
Hungary and Spain are among the countries benefiting from production shifts as German carmakers point to high costs in their home country.
