UK watchdog settles antitrust probe with housebuilders (updated)

Adds background in paragraph 2-3, details from CMA's release in paragraph 4 Oct 30 (Reuters) - Britain's competition watchdog on Thursday said it had accepted binding commitments from seven housebuilders, including Barratt Redrow BTRW.L, Persimmon PSN.L and Taylor Wimpey TW.L to settle an investigation into potential anticompetitive behavior. The housebuilders - along with Bellway BWY.L, Berkeley Group BKGH.L, Bloor Homes and Vistry VTYV.L - had committed to a combined 100-million-pound ($134.21 million) payment to affordable housing programs in July to address the regulator's concerns. The companies had also agreed to refrain from sharing sensitive pricing information with peers and work with industry bodies to develop guidance on information sharing and introduce enhanced compliance measures. The CMA formally closed its probe on Thursday without determining whether competition law had been violated.
