** Shares of Indian gear maker Bharat Gears Ltd  BGRS.NS 
rise as much as 20% to 167.30 rupees, ahead of record date for
bonus issue of shares
    ** BGRS had fixed Sept. 28 as record date for bonus share
issue at its annual general meeting
    ** Co to issue and allot bonus shares within 2 months from
date of approval by the board of directors on Aug. 24
    ** Shares had hit a 6-month high on Aug. 17 on bonus issue

    ** Shares at highest since Sept. 19
    ** More than 809,000 shares change hands by 0556 GMT, 1.6x
