** Australian miners .AXMM rise as much as 2.4%, their largest intraday pct jump since late August 
** Miners' sub-index hits highest point since September 11 
** Copper prices extended gains for a sixth consecutive day on stockpiling in top metals consumer China ahead of the holiday season MET/L
** Shares of copper-focused BHP BHP.AX and Rio Tinto RIO.AX rise as much as 2.4% and 1.5%, respectively
** YTD, AXMM up 14.4%, including the day's moves, outperforming a 0.4% gain on AXJO benchmark .AXJO
