** Australian miners .AXMM rise as much as 1.6%, head for their best session since September 9
** Copper prices gained on Thursday as Chinese buyers returned to market after a recent selloff MET/L
** Mining giants BHP Group BHP.AX and Rio Tinto RIO.AX rise 0.8% and 1%, respectively
** YTD, AXMM up more than 14%
