BERLIN/FRANKFURT, Aug 15 (Reuters) - The following are some
of the factors that may move German stocks on Monday:
GAS CRISIS
German finance minister Christian Lindner has written to
European Economy Commissioner, Paolo Gentiloni, asking
permission to exempt a new levy on gas prices for German
consumers from value added tax. He also is opposed to taxing
excessive energy company profits. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N2ZP07B urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N2ZQ0FL
The levy is due to be set on Monday, to spread the burden of
higher prices from lower Russian exports. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N2ZO286
German gas storage levels were filled to just over 75% on
Friday, ahead of a Sept. 1 government deadline. Berlin is urging
industry, households and public sector users to cut
consumption. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N2ZQ08M
SHIPPING DISRUPTION
Water levels on the river Rhine in Germany fell further over
the weekend in dry weather, adding to transport costs and
preventing barges to sail fully laden.
The Berlin government is planning a decree to give priority
for the transport of energy commodities by rail networks over
other services if they can't be moved by inland waterway
ships. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N2ZQ0B9
Transport minister Volker Wissing told Rheinische Post's
Monday edition he expected slightly higher water levels over the
next four weeks.
BANKING
German banks should be highly careful not to enter into
cryptocurrency deals without specialist knowledge and warning
customers of risks, BaFin executive Raimund Roesler said in an
interview with Handelsblatt, due to appear in the paper's Monday
edition.
Roeseler said in a separate matter that high interest rates
could put strains on small and medium sized banks, adding he
assumed a "small double-digit" number of them could face serious
problems in refinancing low-interest loans they had granted.
UKRAINE
Ukrainian forces reported heavy Russian shelling and
attempts to advance on several towns in the eastern region of
Donetsk that has become a key focus of the near six-month war,
but said they had repelled many of the attacks. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL4N2ZQ0L9
