(Adds details throughout, shares in paragraph 2)
Nov 25 (Reuters) - Biohaven BHVN.N said on Monday its
experimental treatment for spinal muscular atrophy helped
improve patients' motor function in a late-stage study, but
failed to achieve statistical significance compared to placebo
and standard of care.
Shares of the drug developer fell more than 12% in premarket
trading.
The company is planning to discuss further steps with the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration and said it will present the
data at an upcoming medical conference.
The drug, taldefgrobep alpha, also helped reduce body fat,
while increasing lean muscle mass and bone density in these
patients compared to placebo and standard of care, Biohaven
said.
The company said it plans to advance the drug as a treatment
for obesity and begin a mid-stage study for the same in the
fourth quarter of 2024.
