Brake maker Brembo and tyre maker Michelin team up to improve safety and performance (updated)

(Adds details, quote and background in paragraphs 2-7)
       Dec 10 (Reuters) - Italy's Brembo BRBI.MI and France's
Michelin MICP.PA have signed a global "intelligent solutions"
deal that will focus on sharing real-time data between
Michelin's tyres and Brembo's braking systems to improve vehicle
performance and safety.
The announcement, in a joint statement on Tuesday, comes
shortly after Brembo sold its 5.6% stake in tyre maker Pirelli
PIRC.MI in October, ending links between the two Italian
companies and rumours about a possible merger.
"We are thrilled to join forces with a brand like Brembo, a
leader in its field. Our shared passion for innovation and
excellence allows us to take a new step forward in enhancing
user safety," said Serge Lafon, President of the Business Line
Automotive Original Equipment at Michelin.
Track tests run at Michelin's research centre showed braking
distance can be reduced up to four meters in situations where
the anti-lock braking system intervenes, the statement said.
"This partnership with Michelin illustrates the power of
collaboration and innovation in the automotive industry," said
Brembo Chief Executive Officer Daniele Schillaci.
Brembo, majority-owned by Italy's Bombassei family,
announced in October its largest acquisition, buying suspension
technology manufacturer Ohlins Racing for $405 million in cash.
