Brazil's Casa dos Ventos inks $500 million deal to supply power to Ascenty data centers

SAO PAULO, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Brazilian renewable power generator Casa dos Ventos has signed a deal with Ascenty to supply power to the data center operator's facilities in the South American country, the companies told Reuters on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, Ascenty - controlled by Brookfield BAM.N and Digital Realty DLR.N - will become a partner in two new renewable energy projects being developed by Casa dos Ventos, one wind and one solar.

The agreement was valued at more than $500 million.

Ascenty will be supplied with 110 average megawatts once the projects become operational in 2027.

The deal will back Casa dos Ventos's development of the Dom Inocencio wind farm in Piaui state and the Paraiso solar project in Mato Grosso do Sul, which require estimated investments of 7.5 billion reais ($1.40 billion).

Their combined capacity will exceed 1.5 gigawatts.

KEY CONTEXT

Data centers have been driving new energy contracts in Brazil as investors seek to tap the country's abundant renewable power supply.

Ascenty operates 20 data centers and has eight under construction in Brazil.

The company is replacing expiring contracts and exploring more deals with Casa dos Ventos, CEO Christopher Torto said.

Casa dos Ventos is backed by TotalEnergies TTEF.PA.
