POLITICS
Italy said some U.S. customs authorities have requested tariffs above the rate agreed with the European Union on imports such as Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano cheeses, and that it was seeking guarantees the lower figure will be applied.
ENERGY
Italy will work on ways to permanently cut energy costs which weigh heavily on the economy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Wednesday at a political conference in the beach town of Rimini.
ECONOMY
ISTAT releases August consumer and business confidence data (0800 GMT); June industry sales data (0900 GMT).

COMPANIES
MFE-MEDIA FOR EUROPE MFEB.MI
MediaForEurope (MFE) is set to take control of ProSiebenSat.1 PSMGn.DE after Czech investment group PPF on Wednesday said it would sell its stake in the German broadcaster to MFE.

The automaker's registrations in the European Union, Britain and the European Free Trade Association fell 1.1% in July while the overall market rose 5.9%, European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) data showed on Thursday.
The automaker on Wednesday reached a deal with unions to cut working hours at its Pomigliano plant in southern Italy as market conditions weaken, similar to the deal signed for Termoli, another Italian plant, on Monday.
Another reduced working hours deal is expected to be signed on Thursday for the Mirafiori plant in northern Turin, Corriere della Sera daily reported. According to the CGIL trade union, reduced work hours measures affect about 62% of Stellantis workers in Italy.

The Italian government is considering introducing a tax on the share buybacks of listed companies, including banks, as well as raising funds from banks by changing the terms for tax credits known as deferred tax assets or DTA that banks use to lower their payments, several newspaper reported on Thursday.

The Italian lender's board members have been warned of a possible board meeting in early September to approve a raise of the takeover bid for Mediobanca.

The Turin club said on Wednesday it had sold Portuguese defender Tiago Djalo to Turkey's Besiktas for 3.5 million euros.
