POLITICS

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday ruled out the possibility of snap parliamentary elections following a referendum on justice reform expected in March.

(*) Venezuela has released Italian citizens Alberto Trentini and Mario Burlo from prison, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Monday, adding that a plane was on its way from Rome to take them home.

ECONOMY

EU states gave the go-ahead on Friday for the bloc to sign its largest free trade accord with the South American group Mercosur, more than 25 years after talks began, following months of wrangling to secure enough support.

Italy will gain 14 billion euros in extra exports thanks to the deal, Italian Foreign Minister told daily Il Sole 24 Ore in an interview published on Saturday.

The Italian government plans to spend around 1 billion euros ($1.16 billion) to reduce energy bills for households and businesses, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday, as part of efforts to boost economic growth.

However, the decree to introduce the measures is not yet ready and funded, dailies La Stampa and la Repubblica wrote on Sunday.

(*) Talks on financing are ongoing with the Economy Ministry, Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratini told La Stampa on Monday.

COMPANIES

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The size and shape of any future investments in Europe by the carmaker will hinge on decisions on auto industry regulation, the head of Europe said on Friday, expressing concern at what had been announced so far.

(*) On Friday the carmaker said it would stop selling plug-in hybrid versions of the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica in the United States as it navigates soft demand and shifts its North American electrification strategy.

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI

Alpha Bank said UniCredit has a potential 2.27% stake in  the Greek lender through financial instruments in addition to its recently increased 29.8% stake.

MONTE DEI PASCHI BMPS.MI

The Italian government is open to selling its remaining stake in the bailed-out bank but is in no rush to do so, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday.

BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

The European Central Bank is close to clearing, with conditions, a request by France's Credit Agricole CAGR.PA to raise its stake in Banco BPM, several Italian media reported on Sunday.

The shipbuilder said on Monday its Norwegian subsidiary Vard had signed a new contract with marine robotics company Ocean Infinity, worth more than 200 million euros, for the design and construction of four new multi-purpose robotic vessels.
