Brazil soybean crushing capacity climbs 13% in 2026, Abiove says SAO PAULO, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Brazil's soybean crushing capacity rose 13% in 2026 from the previous year to 86.4 million metric tons annually, industry group Abiove said on Tuesday.
The expansion reflects stronger demand for soybean oil, the main feedstock for Brazil's biodiesel industry, and for soybean meal, a key ingredient in animal feed, Abiove said
Abiove, which represents companies including ADM ADM.N, Bunge BG.N and Cargill in Brazil, forecasts the country's 2026 soybean crush will reach a record 63.5 million tons
Soybean processors have announced 7.7 billion reais ($1.5 billion) in investments to expand existing operations or build new plants in Brazil, according to Abiove's annual report
Abiove said those projects, planned to start within the next 12 months, should add 7.4 million tons a year of crushing capacity
The number of operating soybean crushing plants in Brazil rose to 148 from 131, while idle facilities fell to six from 12 and plants under construction declined to three from six, Abiove said($1 = 4.9982 reais)
