China issues overseas compliance rules for automakers, warns against disruptive competition

China issues overseas compliance rules for automakers, warns against disruptive competition

- Chinese regulators on Tuesday issued new guidelines for automakers' overseas operations, calling on companies to comply with laws governing outbound investment and overseas business activities, while strengthening anti-monopoly, anti-corruption and social responsibility compliance.

Automakers should avoid frequent and substantial price changes that could harm consumer interests or damage brand image in overseas markets, the guidelines said.

The guidelines urged firms to strengthen overseas antitrust compliance, avoid disruptive competition and ensure products exported abroad are suited to local market demands.

The move comes as Chinese automakers, led by BYD 002594.SZ, 1211.HK, rapidly expand into overseas markets amid intensifying competition at home.
