    POLITICS
    Italy, the euro zone's third largest but most chronically
sluggish economy, will soon get a windfall that could transform
its fortunes - not necessarily for the better. As the biggest
beneficiary of the European Union's 750 billion euro ($890
billion) Recovery Fund, Rome believes the cash will help it fix
entrenched economic problems and close its decades-old growth

    Italy's Treasury said on Wednesday it would offer up to 2
billion euros of the BTP bond issued on March 1, 2015 and

    Italy could have its first shots of British drugmaker

    Rome would welcome Macquarie buying a stake in Italy's Open
Fiber as long as it fits with plans to form a national broadband
champion, sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

    Enel's board would be informed about Macquari's offer at a
meeting on Thursday.

    Intesa said on Wednesday that it would exercise its right of
squeeze-out on UBI's shares between Sept. 18 and Sept. 29. It
will pay UBI's shareholders 1.7 Intesa's shares and 0.57 euros
in cash or 3.539 euros in cash. Borsa Italiana will revoke the

    The board of Mediobanca proposed on Wednesday changing
governance rules which at present bar outsiders from holding the
top job at Italy's leading investment bank, as it prepares for a

    Italy's communication watchdog AGCOM needs more time to
complete a review of a decision it made forcing France's Vivendi
 VIV.PA  to forfeit most of its stake in Italy's top commercial

exchange operator Six have launched a charm offensive to win the
