Cameco suspends Cigar Lake mining operations after Orano mill disruption
Cameco suspends Cigar Lake mining operations after Orano mill disruption July 1 (Reuters) - Canadian uranium supplier Cameco Corp CCO.TO said on Wednesday that operations at its Cigar Lake uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan have been temporarily suspended due to processing disruptions at Orano's McClean Lake uranium processing mill.
Orano's McClean Lake facility halted production following operational issues with its sulfuric acid plant and is working to restore operations while assessing alternative acid supply options as replacement parts are sourced, Cameco said.
The company expects the McClean Lake mill to restart in about two weeks and does not anticipate an impact on its 2026 production outlook for Cigar Lake, though it warned of downside risk if the disruption extends.
Cameco said there is a risk that repairs to the acid plant could take longer than planned and that mining at Cigar Lake is unable to resume on schedule, which could impact its 2026 production outlook depending on the duration of any additional delays.
