    Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd.  CTCa.TO  is laying off 3 per cent
of its work force and cutting costs, as persistent economic
pressures continue to affect consumer demand and weigh on retail
sales.
    
    The Conservatives in Canada introduced a private member's
bill Thursday in the House of Commons that calls on the federal
government to move ahead with its delayed rollout of an open
banking system.
