Cathay Pacific appoints finance veteran Gavin March to succeed CFO Sharpe

- Hong Kong's flagship carrier Cathay Pacific Airways 0293.HK said on Thursday that Rebecca Sharpe will step down as chief financial officer, effective October 1, and named industry veteran Gavin March as the successor.

Here are some details:

  • Sharpe, who has served as executive director and finance boss of the carrier since January 2021, will resign to pursue early retirement and personal commitments.

  • March currently serves as finance director of Swire Bulk, a bulk trading arm of the U.K.-headquartered John Swire & Sons group.

  • His career spans almost three decades in finance, including prior roles as the financial chief of a unit under Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company and the general manager of finance and administration at Hong Kong Aero Engine Services.

  • The incoming finance head joined the Swire group in 2020 and has worked in Hong Kong, the United States and Singapore.

  • The move comes as airlines grapple with fuel cost pressures and traffic disruptions from the Middle East conflict.
