Pieridae Energy hires KBR to review planned Goldboro LNG export plant in Canada

April 2 (Reuters) - Pieridae Energy Ltd PEA.V hired U.S.
engineering firm KBR Inc KBR.N to "perform a review" of an
amended version of a previously prepared engineering study for
the Canadian energy company's proposed Goldboro LNG facility in
Nova Scotia:

    * Pieridae said in a statement on Monday KBR will also
conduct an estimate necessary for entering into a lump sum
engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
    * KBR said in a statement its work would be performed within
11 months.
    * Pieridae, meanwhile, said it anticipates signing an EPC
contract in "the coming months" with construction activities
expected to start in 2019 and first gas being shipped to meet an
expected global shortfall in 2023/2024.
    * Pieridae has said it hoped to make a final investment
decision on the project in 2019.
    * Officials at the company were not immediately available
for comment.
    * Pieridae said total development cost of the Alberta gas
fields, where the company owns gas assets, and the liquefaction
facility, was expected to reach about C$10 billion.
    * Pieridae says it has agreements in place to use existing
pipelines to transport gas from Western Canada to the Goldboro
facility.
    * The two-train LNG facility is designed to produce 10
million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG or around 1.3 billion
cubic feet per day (bcfd) of natural gas.
    * One billion cubic feet is enough gas to supply about 5
million U.S. homes for a day.
    * Pieridae says Goldboro will supply much needed gas to
Europe and other markets. In Europe, the company said the
facility would help countries reduce reliance on Russian gas as
some follow through on plans to shut coal and nuclear plants.
    * The company already has a 20-year agreement to sell LNG
from Goldboro to German energy company Uniper SE UN01.DE .
    * Goldboro is one of over a dozen LNG export projects under
development in North America that hope to make a final
investment decision in 2019, representing almost 22 bcfd of
capacity. Analysts, however, do not expect all of those projects
 will move forward.
    * There are currently 5.2 bcfd of LNG export capacity in
service in North America at Cheniere Energy Inc's LNG.A Sabine
Pass in Louisiana and Corpus Christi in Texas and Dominion
Energy Inc's D.N Cove Point in Maryland. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL1N21C0XY
    * There is one export facility under construction in Canada
- Royal Dutch Shell Plc's RDSa.L 13-MTPA LNG Canada plant in
British Columbia.
