John Delaney's Forbright confidentially files for US IPO (updated)

Adds background and details in paragraphs 3-6

Feb 17 (Reuters) - U.S. bank Forbright, founded by former U.S. Representative John Delaney, has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in the United States, it said on Tuesday, a sign that a rebound in bank IPOs could carry over into 2026.

U.S. bank IPOs have made a comeback over the past 12 months, after surmounting the regional banking crisis of 2023, as a rebound in stock prices encourages boardrooms to tap public markets.

IPOs of U.S.-based banks raised more than $800 million in 2025, marking the best year since 2018, according to data compiled by Dealogic.

Central Bancompany CBC.O, Commercial Bancgroup CBK.O, and Northpointe Bancshares NPB.N were among the U.S. banks that tapped public markets last year.

Chevy Chase, Maryland-based Forbright's platform spans across middle market lending, digital consumer banking, strategic advisory and asset management services. It had more than $7 billion in assets at the end of 2025.

The company began its journey in 2003 as Congressional Bank, then a community bank serving the Washington D.C. area. In 2022, it rebranded itself to Forbright.

Confidential submission of paperwork with the U.S. securities regulator allows companies to prepare for their stock market flotations away from the glare of public market investors.

The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering has not yet been determined, Forbright said.
