    EU leaders stood at an impasse on Sunday after three days of
haggling over a plan to revive economies throttled by the
COVID-19 pandemic, but the chairman of their near-record-length
summit urged them to make one last push on "mission impossible".

    INTESA SANPAOLO  ISP.MI , UBI BANCA  UBI.MI 
    UBI Banca's investor Patto dei Mille will hold a meeting
with the advisers of the two lenders on Tuesday to discuss the
takeover offer, its Chairman told Italian newswire Adnkronos.
    The improved offer tabled by Intesa will likely be rejected
by UBI Banca in a board meeting expected at the beginning of
this week, Il Sole 24 Ore said on Sunday.
    Intesa Sanpaolo increased its bid for UBI Banca on Friday,
offering 0.57 euro in cash as well as 1.7 of its own shares for
each share of its smaller rival, as it stepped up its push for a
deal to create the euro zone's seventh-largest bank.  L5N2EO25V 
    The strategic objectives of Intesa Sanpaolo's planned
acquisition of UBI Banca could be threatened if Intesa were
forced to sell its own branches rather than those of its smaller
rival to address antitrust concerns, UBI said on Friday.

    ATLANTIA  ATL.MI 
    The group has picked Bank of America Merrill Lynch, JP
Morgan and Mediobanca to advise on the sale of a stake in its
motorway unit, two sources close to the matter said on Sunday,
as suitors line up to invest in its Autostrade unit. 
    According to two other sources, UniCredit and Citigroup will

    Autostrade's employees should have a role as investors and
should be involved in the governance of the company once the
government brings the motorway operator under its control, the
head of CISL union told La Repubblica on Saturday.
    Fitch Ratings said on Friday it had revised the Rating Watch
on Atlantia's 10 billion euro medium-term note programme's 'BB'
rating to Evolving from Negative. Fitch has also revised the
Rating Watch on Autostrade per l'Italia's and Aeroporti di
Roma's long-term issuer default ratings of 'BB+' and 'BBB-',

    The Italian government plans to list Autostrade by early
next year after forcing through an agreement with the Benetton
family to take Atlantia's motorway business under state control,

    UniCredit is looking for an M&A partner in Italy, Il
Messaggero reported on Sunday, adding the bank CEO had recently
met with Banco BPM head for talks. UniCredit and Banco BPM
declined to comment the issues, Il Messaggero said. 
    Alternatively, Banco BPM could merge with BPER and Monte dei
Paschi, under a plan supported by Italy's Treasury, the daily
said.
    
    CATTOLICA  CASS.MI 
    Managing Director Carlo Ferraresi believes that Cattolica's
investors, including Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway
 BRKa.N , will approve the transformation of the insurer into a
joint-stock company at a end-July shareholder meeting, he told
Il Sole 24 Ore on Saturday. 
    
    ENI  ENI.MI 
    The oil group aims to accelerate its growth in the bio-fuel
business and in the carbon capture, utilisation and storage
sector, its CEO Claudio Descalzi told Milano Finanza daily. The
group wanted to expand its retail customers more quickly than
previously envisaged, Descalzi said. Eni plans to become carbon
neutral in Europe by 2050, he said.

    The multi-utility wants to expand its the water division and
may look at potential acquisitions in this sector, CEO Renato
Mazzoncini told Corriere della Sera on Sunday.

    U.S. tycoon Dan Friedkin has tabled a new bid for the soccer
team worth 490 million euros in cash, Milano Finanza said on
Saturday.

    An Italian court has given final approval to a plan to
rescue ailing Italian construction company Astaldi, paving the
way for a tie-up with bigger rival Webuild WBD.MI, formerly
