TOKYO, March 29 (Reuters) - Japan's Kansai Electric
Power Co Inc 9503.T has restarted the No.4 reactor at its
Takahama nuclear power station in western Japan after fixing
trouble that caused an automatic shutdown, a company
spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The utility rebooted the 870-megawatt (MW) reactor on March
24, after it was automatically shut down on Jan. 30 following an
alarm to show that neutrons had suddenly decreased in the
reactor, she said.
The cause was a drop in current value in the part holding
the control rod due to a connection failure of the electrical
cable, and one control rod was inserted into the reactor, the
company said in a statement this month.
The company had resumed operations as measures such as
switching to a backup route were completed, the spokesperson
said.
With the restart, Japan has eight operating reactors with a
capacity of 8,176 MW.
Many of Japan's reactors are still going through a
relicensing process under safety standards imposed after the
2011 Fukushima disaster.
Nine regional power utilities and wholesaler Japan Atomic
Power Co (Japco) now have 33 reactors available for commercial
use, with a combined capacity of 33,083 MW.
The companies had 54 reactors operating before the Fukushima
disaster.
The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power
plants.
The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power 9502.T ,
Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T , Hokkaido Electric Power
9509.T , Hokuriku Electric Power 9505.T , Kansai Electric

Power 9507.T , Tohoku Electric Power 9506.T and Tokyo
Electric Power (Tepco) 9501.T .
They are referred to in the table by their regional names.
