Wall Street's main indexes were mixed on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 hovering
near record highs, as investors awaited more indicators on the state of the
economy and upcoming interest rate reductions.  .N 
    
    At 11:43 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 0.5% to
41,978.33. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 0.03% at 5,731.45 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was up 0.20% at 18,111.087.
