April 30 (Reuters) - Farm and construction equipment maker CNH Industrial CNH.N posted a lower first-quarter profit on Thursday, weighed by muted demand for its tractors.
Low yields and rising input costs have prompted farmers to delay the purchase of new tractor models, affecting companies such as CNH.
"While the first quarter reflected historically low North American agricultural equipment demand...our performance was consistent with expectations," CEO Gerrit Marx said.
Tractors and other farm equipment form the core of CNH's business, accounting for two-thirds of its overall revenue. Weak demand in the U.S. and Europe, which are among the company's biggest markets, impacted its margins in the first quarter.
The company posted an adjusted profit of $0.01 per share in the January-March period, compared with $0.10 per share the year before.
Quarterly revenue remained largely flat from a year ago at $3.83 billion.
