India's Samvardhana Motherson adjusted Q1 profit jumps 54% on strong auto parts demand Aug 6 (Reuters) - Indian auto-parts maker Samvardhana Motherson SAMD.NS reported a 53.9% rise in adjusted first-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by stronger demand for its automotive components and improved margins.
The company's consolidated profit before exceptional items and tax rose to 13.61 billion rupees ($142.93 million) in the quarter ended June 30, from 8.84 billion rupees in the year-ago period.
Here are some details:
The company, a supplier to major carmakers such as Volkswagen VOWG.DE, BMW BMWG.DE, and Mercedes-Benz MBGn.DE, reported a 16.7% rise in total revenue to 352.44 billion rupees, helped by a 11% jump in its wiring harness segment.
Expenses rose 15.5%.
The auto-parts maker said operating profit margins rose to 8.8% from 8.2% a year ago.
The company recorded an exceptional one-time charge of 1.36 billion rupees in the year-ago quarter related to restructuring costs.
Automakers in India saw a rise in demand following the Goods and Services Tax (GST) cuts last September, with analysts expecting the momentum to continue into the first half of 2027, supporting robust orders for component suppliers such as Samvardhana Motherson.
The Noida, India-based global auto-components supplier has more than more than 450 facilities in 47 countries, according to its website.
